The Pennsylvania Bureau of Mine Safety will conduct a rescue/training exercise for its staff and other emergency personnel at the coal mine at McDade Park, Scranton, on Wednesday, March 16, from 8 AM – Noon.
The training session will cover any and all possible emergency situations that could occur in a mine. A variety different scenarios and equipment, such as a smoke machine, will be utilized to find people and improve the skills necessary for handling a real-life mine event/crisis.
The coal mine staff, Lackawanna County personnel and area EMTs will be invited to participate. The exercise is being staged free-of-charge.
According to William Davis, the County’s Deputy Director for Parks & Recreation, the State Bureau contacted him to schedule the activity. The exercise is a great way for State personnel to learn about our mine in case of an emergency, get specialized training and to provide the County with advice in the event it is needed.
