The Lackawanna County Arts Department in partnership with the Lackawanna County Library System and the Scranton Cultural Center is hosting an evening with Bob Eckstein, a New Yorker cartoonist and author of The Illustrated History of the Snowman at the Scranton Cultural Center on Thursday, November 7, at 7 p.m.
Mr. Eckstein will discuss the process for writing his book and experiences as a New Yorker cartoonist. The lecture will be followed by a reception and book signing with copies available for sale.
Mr. Eckstein is an award winning illustrator whose work has been featured in The New Yorker, The Wall St. Journal and The New York Times, as well as more than a dozen other publications. He has taught at The School of Visual Arts and the Pratt Institute. In 2000, Bob sought to solve the mystery of who created the first snowman. The inquiry enabled him to travel around the world. The project took seven years to complete, which created a fascinating and entertaining read.
The lecture, which is free and open to the public, kicks-off the County’s holiday events. The theme for this year is “Snow People,” and various activities will be featured at both the Lackawanna County Winter Market at the Globe and at Scranton businesses and organizations where people may take photos at the “Snow People Trail,” located throughout the downtown.
