Memorial Day Flags Orders

Order forms and a postage-paid return envelope for Memorial Day flags and markers were mailed to all American Legion Posts and VFWs for completion.  The Lackawanna County Veterans Affairs Office is asking the organizations to return the forms no later than March 31.  If the orders are not received by the deadline, the Veterans Affairs Office cannot guarantee that the organizations will get their requested materials.

The office will notify everyone when the shipment arrives and provide information on the location for the pickups.

Order forms and a postage-paid return envelope for Memorial Day flags and markers have been recently mailed to all American Legion Posts and VFWs for completion.  The Lackawanna County Veterans Affairs Office is asking the organizations to return the forms as soon as possible so that the overall order can be submitted early.  The office is trying to head-off any supply shortage or delivery issues caused by the virus/pandemic.

The office will notify everyone when the shipment arrives and provide information on the location for the pickups so that preparation of the cemeteries for Memorial Day by the various organizations and groups can begin.

Food Pantry For Veterans

Food Pantry For Veterans

In an effort to provide nutrition and assistance to our area’s veterans, the Lackawanna County Veterans Affairs Office, Bread Basket of NEPA and the Theodore J. Wint VFW Post 25 have joined forces to offer a weekly pantry for those who have served their country and are in need.

The pantry will be located at The Wint VFW on 2291 Rockwell Avenue, Scranton, and be open every Friday from 11 AM – 1 PM.

It is available to all veterans, their families, and the widows of veterans. No financial/income information is required to utilize this service.

Veterans and/or their families must register on their initial visit.  They need to bring any of the following documents to sign-up: DD 214, VA card or Military ID.

“Remember Our Fallen” Memorial At McDade Park

“Remember Our Fallen” Memorial At McDade Park

A special 911 “Remember Our Fallen” Memorial for the 20th Anniversary of a tragic day in America is making a stop at McDade Park from September 10 – 14.

The public can visit the memorial any of those days from early morning until dusk when the park closes.
