Scranton, Pa. — The Lackawanna County Commissioners, in partnership with the City of Scranton, Tobyhanna Army Depot, Scranton Army Reserve Center and Ronald McDonald House, will be hosting a press conference regarding Armed Forces Week activities on Thursday, April 19, 2018, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Courthouse Square.
The Scranton Armed Forces Week events for 2018 will take on a different approach with numerous new events and attractions, sure to make these family-friendly festivities ones to remember. Please join us to learn more about these exciting developments that will engage our community in honoring our military.
Members of the Armed Forces Week planning committee, including representatives of local military units, veterans organizations and elected officials, will offer details on the events and will be available for questions. Several military vehicles that are planned to participate in the parade are also expected to be present at the press conference for an up-close look.
In existence since 1949, Armed Forces week events pay special tribute to the men and women of the Armed Forces. President Truman led the effort to establish a holiday in order for citizens to unite and to honor our military heroes for their patriotic service in support of the United States of America.
