Four new projects, focusing on such areas as children, veterans, history, and animal safety, were approved for funding by the Lackawanna County Commissioners through their Community Re-Invest Program totaling $25,525.
Since the Community Re-Invest Program was established in July of 2013, the Commissioners have approved grants for 104 projects totaling $1,500,000. In all of the projects, the Community Re-Invest Program has provided the “last mile” funding to help complete the initiatives, which has allowed these valuable community projects to come to fruition. The total amount of public-private investment in all of these ventures is $7,671,111.
“The Greenfield Township renovation project represents another great opportunity to preserve our past. Our County has been built on traditional values, and we are proud to be a part of helping to safeguard our past,” said Commissioner Jim Wansacz.
“This program has been a tremendous success over the past four years. It has been about giving back to our communities. In this round, we again assisted organizations, neighborhoods and groups that are the foundation of Lackawanna County,” said Commissioner Patrick M. O’Malley.
“I am very pleased to be able to help Jefferson Township with its project,” noted Commissioner Edward G. Staback. “Veterans have done so much for our nation, state and community. Without the efforts of our service men and women, we would not enjoy the freedoms that we experience daily. This grant is a small token of our appreciation.”
