Lackawanna County Supports Toys For Tots Drive

The Lackawanna County Commissioners presented a $25,000 donation to support the annual Toys For Tots Drive.  Due to the economic hardships created by the COVID 19 pandemic, this gift will help to deliver smiles, hope and Santa to children during the holiday season.

Lackawanna County Commissioners Announce Funding For Twenty Community Re-Invest Projects

Lackawanna County Commissioners Announce Funding For Twenty Community Re-Invest Projects

Twenty projects, focusing on outdoor recreation, public safety, building upgrades, technology, and accessibility, were approved for funding by the Lackawanna County Commissioners through their Community Re-Invest Program totaling $100,000.  The public-private partnership investment for 2021 is $473,218.

The Community Re-Invest Program was established in July of 2013.  It represents the “last mile” funding to help bring the initiatives to fruition.  The overall public-private investment since its inception is $17,232,869.

The projects that were approved for the final round of funding for 2021 include:

SAINT UBALDO SOCIETY (Jessup)

        Project Description: Ongoing building restoration.

        Total Project Cost: $5,000                          

        Amount from CRP Program: $5,000 

OLYPHANT BOROUGH

        Project Description: Freedom Fighter Memorial Park construction.

        Total Project Cost: $15,000                        

        Amount from CRP Program: $5,000

SOUTH ABINGTON TOWNSHIP

        Project Description: Handheld/portable radios for the police department.

        Total Project Cost: $9,707                          

       Amount from CRP Program: $5,000       

VETERANS HOME ASSOCIATION OF CORTEZ

        Project Description: Installation of an emergency generator.

        Total Project Cost: $11,225                        

       Amount from CRP Program: $5,000       

ARCHBALD POLICE NIGHT OUT

        Project Description: In-car mobile data terminal purchase and installation.

        Total Project Cost: $10,853

        Project Description: Purchase of fire helmet and boots upgrades.

        Project Description: Recreational Park maintenance and equipment upgrade.

        Project Description: Outdoor recreational space improvements.

        Project Description: Replace building heating system.

MAYFIELD BOROUGH

        Project Description: Council chambers upgrades, which include a new air conditioning unit, new chairs, and repainting.

        Total Project Cost: $6,000

MEREDITH HOSE COMPANY (Carbondale Township)

        Project Description: Remove and install new energy efficient windows.

        Total Project Cost: $5,850

VOLUNTEER HOSE COMPANY OF THROOP

        Project Description: Fire/rescue diagnostic tools upgrade, which includes the purchase of thermal-imager camera and three gas                    detection meters.

JERMYN BOROUGH

        Project Description: Flood mitigation easement purchases.

        Total Project Cost: $10,000

        Project Description: Repair and the refinishing rear porch and repairing the handicap ramp.

        Project Description: Improvements to the food stand and clubhouse, which includes kitchen facilities.

        Project Description: Debt reduction on recently purchased ladder truck.

        Project Description: Construction of a labyrinth at Hillside Park, which is located in South Abington Township, but owned by five                 Abington area municipalities, as an award project for a Newton Township scout.

HRICAK-McANDREW AMERICAN LEGION POST 869 (Archbald)

        Project Description: Replace porch rails.

County Job Fair To Showcase Over 55 Vendors With Nearly 1,950 Positions

County Job Fair To Showcase Over 55 Vendors With Nearly 1,950 Positions

Fifty-seven Northeastern Pennsylvania companies, offering approximately 1,950 full-time, part-time, and seasonal job openings, are participating in the eighth annual Lackawanna County Job Fair on the Concourse at PNC Field on Thursday, October 28, from Noon to 4 PM.

The event is free and open to candidates of all experience levels and work categories.

As an added extra to the event, the County is also partnering with Delta Medix to provide first, second and third vaccination shots to any member of the public at the Job Fair. All three COVID-19 vaccines will be available. Anyone getting their second or third (booster) shot must present their vaccination card.

Representatives from the Pennsylvania CareerLink Lackawanna will be on-site to offer assistance on resume preparation and proper interview etiquette, along with other related general advice.

The general public is urged to: bring their resumes; dress professionally; and be prepared to be interviewed.

The vendors in the Job Fair were not charged for the exhibit space. This is a total community service activity.

Twenty-one projects, focusing on outdoor recreation, public safety, security, technology, and accessibility, were approved for funding by the Lackawanna County Commissioners through their Community Re-Invest Program totaling $101,338.  The public-private partnership investment for 2021 is $127,829.

The Community Re-Invest Program was established in July of 2013.  It represents the “last mile” funding to help bring the initiatives to fruition.  The overall public-private investment since its inception is $8,858,656.
