The 59th annual Pennsylvania State 4-H Horse Show was held October 26-28 at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and Expo Center in Harrisburg. More than 700 youth from over 55 counties participated in 74 performance classes throughout the weekend.
The State 4-H Horse Show is the final competition of the year for 4-H horse members enrolled in performance horse projects. To be eligible for the show, members must advance through qualifying competitions at county and district levels. The show’s events included: showmanship, horsemanship, equitation, pleasure, over fences, driving, western riding, reining, trail and timed events. A therapeutic riding division for riders with special needs was also included.
There are over 4,500 4-H horse projects involving youth throughout Pennsylvania. Programs are designed to develop life skills in youth and knowledge of horse production, use and management.
Nine Valley Equestrian 4-H Club Members from Lackawanna County participated and placed in the following classes:
- Maggie Carper, Clarks Summit: 5th in Hunt Seat Equitation On the Flat and 8th in Breed Type Hunter Under Saddle
- Rylie Heusner, Scranton: Champion Classic Hunter Under Saddle
- Kara Judge, Scranton: 7th in Breed Type Hunter Under Saddle
- Zoe Keller, Tunkhannock: 3rd in Low Working Hunter Ponies
- Molly Landsiedel, Dalton: 4th in Western Grooming and Showmanship, 4th in Western Horsemanship, and Reserve Champion 14-18 Open Trail Horses
- Shayla VanVleck, Clifford Township: Reserve Champion Ranch Horse Pleasure
- Corinne Jacoby, Clarks Summit
- Alyssa Angelicola, Clarks Summit
- Carissa Morgan, Moscow
