The restoration and relocation of Red Wing, the 1976 welded steel plate sculpture by Scranton artist Hope Cumming Horn (1920-2001), has been completed for the Everhart Museum’s Diwali fundraiser scheduled for Friday, September 27, from 6 PM – 10 PM at the Museum.
The 7’ 5″ wide by 9’ tall sculpture was gifted to the County by Hope Horn and stood on the grounds of Lackawanna County Courthouse for decades.
Because of safety and aesthetic issues, Lackawanna County Commissioners opted to explore restoring and relocating the work of art to a more appropriate venue. As no details regarding any restoration of the sculpture were left by the artist’s estate, a committee was formed of people familiar with Ms. Hope’s work. She had exhibited at the Everhart Museum many times and some of her pieces are part of its collection. A decision was made to relocate the piece to the entrance of the Museum.
In the Spring of 2019 Lackawanna County issued Request for Proposals (RFP) and the award went to the local Scranton firm, Reclamation Industrial Furnishings, owned and operator by metal artist Brian Murray. The culmination of the work will become a reality and be unveiled on Friday (September 27).
