“The public spoke and we listened,” explained Linda Munley, Lackawanna County’s register of wills/clerk of orphans’ court.
The county’s clerk of judicial records Mary Rinaldi noted, “we responded to our users needs.”
In early October of 2011 both offices along with the county’s department of information technology rolled out this “FREE” records search service.
The searches will now run with a variety of web browsers: Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Chrome and many others. This makes it Apple friendly.
County director of information technology Jeff Mando said the upgrade corrected the system’s problems and eliminated the need for a download. It runs on an embedded page and is even more user-friendly for locating data. It’s now easier to search your “roots” or view civil records on-line.
Lackawanna County’s online records include the following documents:
Prothonotary (Civil Division)
Register of Wills 1878 – present
Orphans’ Court 1938 – present
Marriage Records October 1885 – Present
Also included are Docket books 1878-1994
People from Lackawanna County or across the county or world, can access the files with a simple click by visiting the county’s website and going into either the Prothonotary/Register of Wills or Orphans’ Court or Clerk of Judicial Records web pages.
