Lackawanna County officials presented Daniel Chermak, Jr., left, with a series of medals earned by his father, Daniel, Sr., who was shot down in Berlin and held in a prison camp until the end of World War II. The elder Chermak flew multiple bombing missions in the Air Offensive European squadron. The medals included Air medal, three oak clusters, European Africa Middle Eastern Service Medal, and a Purple Heart.
