Seven Lackawanna County 4-H textile science members recently competed in the regional 4-H fashion revue in Mehoopany. The participants were: Bridget Fay, Nicholson; Ella Wilson, Clarks Summit; Faith Hosie, Jessup; Julianna Monforte, Nicholson; Maria Parola, Moscow; Julia Mazur, Olyphant; and Rachel Fay, Nicholson. Thirty-eight members from Lackawanna, Susquehanna, Bradford, Sullivan, Tioga and Wyoming Counties were judged with their garments based on appearance, fit, design, fashion, and construction techniques. In addition, participants attended workshops on modeling and making lotions and upcycled tee shirt bags. The day concluded with a fashion show and an awards presentation. Ella Wilson earned an honorable ribbon in the Junior Wearable, Year 1 division. In the Junior Wearable Year 3 division, Julianna Monforte earned a yellow ribbon and Bridget Fay earned the blue ribbon. Faith Hosie earned the yellow ribbon in the Senior Non-Wearable division. Julia Mazur and Rachel Fay earned spots at the State 4-H Fashion Revue, scheduled for the main campus of Penn State University on August 7. Maria Parola earned an alternate place for the State Revue. The young women will compete against 4-H’ers from across the state for the top 12 places. The 4-H textile science program is sponsored by Penn State Extension. It teaches youth, ages eight to eighteen, clothing construction skills, self-esteem enhancement techniques, poise and confidence.
