Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf announced Tuesday (November 27) that Lackawanna County has been approved for federal funding to assist municipalities to repair the damage caused by the severe flooding during the August 10 – 15 timeframe.
Under the Federal Public Assistance Program, approved municipalities will be reimbursed up to 75 percent of the costs incurred on eligible expenses. The types of costs that are covered include overtime, infrastructure repair, equipment rentals, and materials, to mention a cross section.
The County’s 911 Emergency Services Center will be scheduling a meeting over the next few weeks with municipal, FEMA, PEMA and County officials to go over the timeline, requirements, eligible costs, and a host of other items pertaining to the process.
“This is great news for Lackawanna County. This aid is vital to restore the infrastructure of our communities that was badly damaged by the August flooding,” stated Patrick M. O’Malley, Chairman of the County’s Board of Commissioners.
The approval for the funding began on August 17, 2018, when Governor Wolf signed a Proclamation of Disaster Emergency, which is the first step for potentially securing federal aid.
The Governor’s request for individual assistance is still under review.
