The 58th annual Pennsylvania State 4-H Horse Show was held October 27-29 at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and Expo Center in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. More than 700 youth from over 55 counties participated in 73 performance classes throughout the weekend.
The State 4-H Horse Show is the final competition of the year for 4-H horse members enrolled in performance horse projects. To be eligible for the show, members must advance through qualifying competitions at county and district levels. Events included: showmanship, horsemanship, equitation, pleasure, over fences, driving, western riding, reining, trail and timed events. A therapeutic riding division for riders with special needs is also included.
Lackawanna County’s Valley Equestrians 4H Club has a total of 24 members. All members competed at the County and District Horse Shows in August. Members placing in the top of their classes moved on to the next level, with 13 members moving on to compete at the state competition.

3rd place in Classic Hunter Under Saddle Horses, 14-18

6th place in Hunter Under Saddle Ponies (over 13.2 hands)

All class champions in the show were awarded champion ribbons and pewter plates, as well as embroidered champion jackets. Reserve champions in each class received a ribbon and leather bracelet or leather key chain donated by Perri’s Leather of Lincoln University, Pennsylvania. All exhibitors in the therapeutic riding division received personalized horse shoes made by Randy Rider Jr. and sponsored by Randy and his wife, Amanda Rider.
Reserve Champion Sponsors for the horse show included: Perri’s Leather, P.W. Wood & Sons, Inc., and Valley Ag & Turf LLC; Blue Ribbon Sponsors were: C & M Pine Products and Purina; and Clover Level Sponsors were: Vetericyn, Tory Leather Co., Dennis & Joyce Sawford, Triple Crown, Soergel Orchards, Altmeyer Trailer & Tack Sales, and Herr’s Foods.
Friends of the Show included: Walnut Grove Farm Morgan Horses, Mr. Dave Campbell, the Decker Family, and Keystone International Livestock Expo.
