Everyone deserves a second chance.
The Lackawanna County Re-Entry Task Force (LCRTF) believes so and is doing something about it.
The Housing Subcommittee of the Task Force is sponsoring a “2nd Chance Festival” on Sunday, August 20, from Noon to 4 PM at Nay Aug Park, Scranton. The event will feature live music, food, soft drinks, swimming and a variety of children’s activities.
The goal of the event is to provide support for individuals returning to the Lackawanna County community from incarceration by helping them to become productive residents and to live a successful life.
Many individuals who are eligible to be released from prison do not have a place to live. Thus, they have to stay in jail. The funds from the festival will help people secure stable housing and be able to prepare a viable home plan to be paroled.
Some 30 non-profit, law enforcement, governmental, treatment, corrections, religious, crime watch, health care and citizens groups are involved in organizing the venture.
Several sponsorship levels are available to underwite the festival.
The vision of the Task Force is that every citizen who returns form incarceration actualizes a responsible, productive and fulfilling life. The LCRTF’s goal is to reduce recidivism and improve outcomes in the County. It is dedicated to successfully integrating incarcerated residents back into the Lackawanna County community through pre-release assessments, systematic identification of needs, and linkages to services.
