Lackawanna County Commissioners Jerry Notarianni and Laureen A. Cummings attended the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania’s (CCAP) Spring Conference in Harrisburg on March 26, 27 & 28, joining other County officials from throughout Pennsylvania. They participated in workshops and training sessions, networked with peers, and discussed State and Federal policies that impact services to residents.
Conference topics included the Commonwealth’s budget, human services funding and system reform, diversifying the County’s tax base, maintaining the shale gas impact fee, preventing substance abuse and drug overdoses, and working to attain behavioral health reform.
“The in-depth training provided at CCAP’s Spring Conference is invaluable,” explained Commissioner Cummings. “Reviewing challenges and success with other County leaders enabled us to take away insights to utilize here.”
“Lackawanna County provides services that form the fabric of our community, including those related to vital issues as children and youth, mental health, intellectual disabilities, drug and alcohol, environmental issues, public health and safety, transportation, courts, prisons, elections, tax assessments, community and economic development, and emergency management. These are critical to our overall operation and the discharge of services our residents,” said Commissioner Notarianni.
It was noted at the conference that the County services are provided via funding from on behalf of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. So, it is vital to be apprised of funding, legislation and other data to be able to use taxpayers’ dollars wisely.”
