Kevin Shaughnessy, 47, was appointed as the new Director of Buildings & Grounds by Lackawanna County Commissioners Jim Wansacz, Patrick M. O’Malley and Edward G. Staback.
“I am happy to have Kevin head-up the department,” said Commissioner Jim Wansacz. “Our buildings and grounds are the face of County government. They are the first impression people get when they enter one of our facilities for legal assistance, program information or general services.”
“We are very pleased to add a person of Kevin’s caliber to our staff. His knowledge and experience will serve us well in maintaining our buildings and landscaping for the various activities that are held on Courthouse Square during the Summer,” explained Commissioner Patrick M. O’Malley.
“I would like to welcome Kevin to our staff and wish him the best. I will assist him in any way that I can in an effort to insure that our facilities and grounds are in top-flight condition,” stated Commissioner Edward G. Staback.
In his position, Mr. Shaughnessy will be responsible for directing the overall operation of maintaining the County’s grounds, managing a staff of 20, handling budgeting, and overseeing the general repairs, upgrades, painting, and upkeep of the County’s 14 properties.
Kevin M. Shaughnessy is a graduate of West Scranton High School. He received a four-year certificate in commercial and residential electricity from the Lackawanna County Area Vocational Educational School and a Certificate of Journeyman Wireman from the National Electrical Contractors Association.
Mr. Shaughnessy possesses 27 years of electrical experience in the industrial, commercial and residential areas. Through his affiliation with the Local 81 Electricians Union, he has worked on some of the largest constructions projects in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
He has been involved in building projects at the University of Scranton, Marywood University, Wilkes Barre/Scranton International Airport, Tobyhanna Army Depot, Procter & Gamble and Geisinger CMC. Kevin also worked on the World Trade Center 911 Disaster at the Verizon Building.
He has participated in a variety of continuing education training programs offered by AT&T, IBEW and national electrical associations. He is also involved in several electrical legislative and safety committees and activities.
Kevin lives in Scranton with his daughter, Peyton.
