Jack Walsh, inside right, a survivor of five cardiac events, created the Mended Hearts Inc. Scranton Area Chapter 276 support group to help area residents cope with the various cardiovascular episodes that they have faced in their life. Mended Hearts Inc., established in 1996, is a volunteer organization whose members visit cardiac patients, provide information, support and encouragement, and offer advice to family caregivers. To date, the group has made 41,000 visits to some 15,000 patients. The Lackawanna County Commissioners presented Mr. Walsh with a Certificate of Recognition for his assistance to others.
