Our society has changed tremendously.
No matter where you are, what you are doing for recreation, what type of event you are attending, or what security presence is at a specific venue, you must be cognizant of your surroundings and personal safety.
To that end, law enforcement and public safety personnel will provide valuable safety advice at a free “Active Shooters Seminar For the General Public” on Tuesday, November 14, at 6 PM at the Lackawanna County 911 Center For Public Safety, 30 Valley View Drive, Jessup.
The speakers for the program are: David Hahn, Director of Emergency Services for Lackawanna County; Sgt. Thomas Carroll, a member of Scranton’s SWAT team; and Officer Joseph Decker from the Lackawanna County SWAT unit.
These individuals will offer life-saving public safety information in the event of an active shooter incident.
“This is a very valuable program for our residents. Pure and simple, it is about personal safety and the welfare of families, the general public alike and those providing services at public events,” explained Commissioner Patrick M. O’Malley.
“The professionals who are presenting the program are well-trained and have first-hand knowledge on how people should safeguard themselves in these types of situations,” said Commissioner Jerry Notarianni. “It is vital that they share their experience to help others.”
“This is all about awareness and the personal safety of our residents, families, guests and event staff. Awareness and education are key; that’s why this program is so important,” noted Commissioner Laureen A. Cummings.
