A federal jury found the Lackawanna County Prison’s staff not guilty of any wrongdoing in the October 2012 lawsuit filed by inmate Shawn Ledcke who claimed an excessive force civil rights violation.
A two-day trial was held in Williamsport on February 8 and 9 before Federal Judge Martin C. Carlson.
The lawsuit was filed on October 1, 2012 alleging excessive force. It included The Lackawanna County Prison, prison guards and the Lackawanna County Sheriff. The Lackawanna County Sheriff and the Lackawanna County Prison were dismissed from the case in July 2013, but the guards remained.
The case went to trial and ended with a defense verdict. Atty. Sean McDonough of Dougherty Leventhal Price LLP represented the County, while inmate Ledcke represented himself.
