February is American Heart Month and the Lackawanna County Commissioners recognized this special designation with a “Good Works” certificate to Denise Seller, Executive Director of the American Heart Association of Northeast PA. Cardiovascular diseases are the number one killer of people. Heart disease also has a major impact on women’s health. Ninety percent of women have one or more risk factors for heart disease and stroke, but with wellness visits, exercise and general diet individuals can stay healthy and live longer. The organization also schedules a number of fund raisers to help create an awareness of the vital measures to keep our residents’ hearts in shape.
