The Clerk of Judicial Records is the custodian of the documents for the Lackawanna County Court of Common Pleas. It has maintained that function since 1878.The Clerk’s office has three divisions:
The Civil Division is located in the Lackawanna County Government Center, 123 Wyoming Avenue, and the Family Court Division is located at 123 Wyoming Ave, 1st Floor, Scranton, PA 18503.
The Civil Division maintains liens, judgments, and Civil and Equity files with a current caseload of approximately 8000 per year. It collects the filing fees, time-stamps, issues receipts, proofreads indexes, certifies court seals, exemplifies, notifies, copies, and communicates by mail or phone the legally mandated information.
The Criminal Division-the Clerk of Courts-with similar duties as the Civil Division, utilizes a state-wide system. It constantly upgrades and changes in terms of legal, technical, and economic constraints. The current caseload is approximately 5000 per year.
The Family Court Division, begun in 2008, maintains divorce actions, custody actions, family court documentation, PFA filings, collects filing fees, time stamps, issues receipts, certifies court seals, issues copies of divorce decree, and provides copies of documents for a fee. The Family Court Division also communicates by mail or phone the legally mandated information as requested. It also provides the record keeping for Juvenile Probation and Children and Youth Services. The current caseload is 4500 per year.
