Temporary Bridge for the Old Plank Road #1 Bridge in Clifton Township

Lackawanna County has installed the temporary bridge for the Old Plank Road #1 bridge in Clifton Township.

It is officially open for use for all types of traffic –regular, emergency, police, and school busses.

Plank Road Bridge in Clifton Township Closed Indefinitely  

 

Bridge #1 on Plank Road in Clifton Township has been shut down indefinitely for safety reasons.

The five beams on the bridge, which carry Plank Road over the Lehigh River, are failing.

The township and Fire Department have been notified along with the Lackawanna County Communications Center.  No school buses travel over the structure.

The closure has caused a 6 – 7 mile detour.

Keystone Road Bridge in Clifton Township Closed Indefinitely

Keystone Road Bridge in Clifton Township Closed Indefinitely

Roads & Bridges was on site to inspect the structure and closed it to heavy traffic.

The County engineers inspected the bridge and discovered that several beams were unstable and closed it indefinitely.

The school district and fire department were notified of the situation.

James Abda Honored

James Abda, center, accepts a proclamation from Lackawanna County Commissioner Patrick M. O’Malley in recognition of his retirement after 42 years of service as head mechanic for the Roads & Bridges Department. Mr. Abda started with the County in 1973 and took great pride in maintaining the fleet of equipment and vehicles under his responsibility. A West Scranton High School graduate, Jim attended Lackawanna College and Marywood University and enlisted in the United States Navy Seabees. He enjoys travelling, car restoration and spending time with his family.
