Mural Art Program Open To Area Schools
Calling all young artists!!
The Lackawanna County Commissioners are providing area students with an opportunity to showcase their art and design talents by participating in the COVID-19 Community Mural Program.
They will have the opportunity to create and paint up to two (2) 3’ x 3’ portable community murals that will serve as COVID-19 Memorials. The winning designs will be displayed permanently in the entrance of the Lackawanna County Government Center, 123 Wyoming Avenue, Scranton.
One mural is to honor those who have lost their lives during the pandemic, and the second mural is to recognize frontline workers – health care professionals, service providers, delivery personnel, truck drivers, and others who have helped everyone to get through the pandemic and to also get products to market.
The schools must be located in Lackawanna County, and they may submit designs for one or both mural topics. The 3’x 3’ prepped boards will be delivered to the school(s) for painting upon selection.
Murals must be original designs and feature only secular symbols or imagery. Schools may submit up to three designs for each category.
The submission deadline is due Friday, April 1.
Awards will be announced, and the boards will be delivered to the winning school(s) by April 8.
