“This letter on the impact of the Lackawanna County Land Bank from Commissioner and Land Bank Chairman Patrick M. O’Malley was published in the Times-Tribune on Saturday, June 10.”
Editor:
The Lackawanna County Land Bank made a major contribution to strengthening the tax base in our community on June 2 by conveying the first deed on a parcel of land in West Scranton at 211 N. Cameron Avenue to Greg and Joan Popil.
This is significant because it returns the tract of land back to the tax roll, generating revenue for both the City and County.
The Land Bank’s operating process is very streamlined and efficient. It cuts through red tape and helps to improve the aesthetic appearance of a neighborhood by removing blight and eyesores.
The County is very pleased with how the Land Bank has evolved, and it looks forward to branching out into other municipalities soon.
The Land Bank has many tracts of land, homes, storefronts and other structures available that are free and clear of property and/or demolition liens. There are no “strings attached.”
Interested parties should contact the Economic and Community Development Department at 570-963-6830 to speak with our staff and review the listing of properties, homes or businesses that may suit their needs for future residential or commercial construction.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Commissioner Patrick M. O’Malley
Board Chairman
