As a means of continuing to provide the residents of Lackawanna County with top-flight emergency and recovery services, four 911 staff members participated in a continuing education class in Harrisburg in late March offered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA).
Rich Barbolish, 911’s EMA Deputy Director, along with Supervisors Thomas Taylor, Al Kearney and Mark Tagliaterra attended the day-long “Emergency Management Operations” course.
The program was designed to improve operational capacities related to managing emergencies. The course stressed the point that in a crisis or disaster situation, the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) should be the focal point for managing the activities surrounding the event.
The course was open to local and County emergency management coordinators and staff along with response personnel, volunteers, public safety officials, planners, Red Cross and individuals from other donation organizations.
